TRAIL INFO
HOW DO I GET TO THE PARK?
If you are coming in from the Beeline Hwy , the easiest way is to take Shea to Saguaro.
You will need to head north (right) on Saguaro and take it all the way to where it comes to a "T". This will be Fountain Hills Blvd.
You will need to turn right here. It will turn into McDowell Mountain Rd as you head out of town. Keep an eye out for the signs to the park.
You will turn on McDowell Mountain Park Drive . I want to say it is 5-6 miles out of town before you turn off. Once you get into the park, there will be signs leading you to the trail head.
If you are coming from Scottsdale (101), you will take Shea to Fountain Hills Blvd and turn left. Fountain Hills Blvd will curve through the neighborhoods and will eventually turn into McDowell Mountain Road and take you to the park entrance.
All of the roads in Fountain Hills are a bit twisty and curvy. It makes it a bit confusing.
Click here for map to the park.
WHAT IS THE PARKING SITUATION?
There is a large parking lot right at the trailhead. There will be signs on the road into the park to guide you to the trailhead. There is a parking fee of $6.00 per car. Consider car pooling to avoid congestion and save a few dollars.
HOW ABOUT RESTROOMS?
There are restrooms at the trailhead. There are no facilities along the trail. Toilet paper and plastic bags will be provided in the hiker goody bags for your use on the trail. Please make sure to dispose of your "poopie bags" at the B'reast Stops or trail head.
WILL THERE BE WATER/FOOD AVAILABLE?
Breakfast and lunch will be provided at the trailhead. Each of the 5 B'reast stops will have water, Gatorade, and snacks. There are 4 miles between station 2 and 3. Make sure to get plenty of water at station 2.
CAN I RUN INSTEAD OF HIKE?
Absolutely! The trail is wonderful for running. Keep in mind the last two B'reast stops will not be up until after 9am. So you may not have them available depending on your pace.
IS THE TRAIL WELL MARKED?
The trail is well maintained and marked. There will be a trail map provided in the hiker goody bags. There will be mile markers all along the trail as well.
WHAT IF I HAVE ANY PROBLEMS ON THE TRAIL OR CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE FINISH LINE?
If you have any trouble on the trail, we will have rovers on bicycles sweeping the trail to make sure you are safe. If you are having any type of trouble, flag a rover or any other volunteer in a bright red shirt down. They will radio for help. If you have minor issues (blister, splinters, etc.) and can make it to the next B'reast Stop, there will be first aid kits at each stop to patch you up and get you back on your way.

DONATIONS
WHAT WILL I NEED FOR CHECK-IN REGISTRATION?
Each hiker is required to sign and date a release of liability form. The form will be turned in at check in. One will be e-mailed to you two weeks before the hike. You can also click here for a form. You will also be able to turn in any last minute donations at that time.
HOW MUCH DOES MY TEAM HAVE TO RAISE IN DONATIONS?
This will depend on how many people are on your team. Each team member has their own $250.00 fundraising requirement. Some companies will match your donations. Check with your company.
HOW CAN MY COMPANY MATCH DONATIONS?
If you have one of those fabulous companies that wants to match your donations. They can do so by making an online donation under the general team donation for your team. If they cannot do the matching donation online, please have them contact us by e-mailing kdc4breastcancerfree@yahoo.com
SPEAKING OF DONATIONS, HOW CAN PEOPLE DONATE IF THEY DO NOT WANT TO DO IT ONLINE?
There is a downloadable donation form on your individual site. This form has your individual information on it. Donations can be mailed in, but be aware it can take 2-3 weeks for mailed payments to post. Please send all of your checks in together if possible. Donations can be made by cash or check. If you get cash donations, you will need to deposit the donations, write a check and mail it to the Breast Cancer Fund using the downloadable form on your individual web site. Checks must be payable to the Breast Cancer Fund.
BY WHAT DATE DO DONATIONS HAVE TO BE SUBMITTED?
Donations can be turned in all the way up until hike day (and online for two weeks after the hike). However, to be eligible to count toward your minimum fundraising goal and prize eligibility, they must post no later than 8am Friday, March 12th, 2010.
WHAT IF I DON'T MAKE THE MINIMUM FUNDRAISING AMOUNT?
If the $250 minimum fundraising requirement is not met, you can still enjoy hiking in the park and have access to support at all of the b'reast stops, as the trails are open to the public. Hikers who reach the minimum fund raising requirement will receive a hiker number. The number is the ticket to all of the trail head treats; breakfast, lunch, goody bags, massage, chiropractic services.
HIKE PREPARATION
HOW MUCH SHOULD I TRAIN?
This will vary from person to person. Make sure you have hiked at least 10 miles 2-3 times before the hike. This will ensure your feet, body, and mind are ready.
ANY ADVICE ON FOOTWEAR?
This is another very individual thing. I can't emphasize enough...DO NOT WEAR A BRAND NEW PAIR OF SHOES for the hike. You need to have them broken in before the hike or you will probably get some nasty, painful blisters. Do wear sturdy trail shoes. This trail is well maintained, so running shoes will work too.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?
While there will be lots of support on the trail you want to bring your own supplies just in case. I recommend the following:
-Day pack with 80 oz. bladder
-Extra socks
-Rain poncho
-Glide
-Sunscreen
-Hat
-Moleskin/bandaids
-Snakebite kit
There will be snacks, Gatoraide, and water at the B'reast Stops. Make sure to get plenty of water at each stop. Make sure you have some type of snack in your pack at all times.
CAN MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY HIKE?
Absolutely. The trail is open to the public during the event. Support services will only be provided to the numbered participants, so make sure those hiking with you have plenty of food and water.
